Why a tin

Light and air are the two things that age an olive oil. A sealed metal tin blocks light completely and, kept closed and in a cool cupboard, keeps the oil fresh far longer than a large glass bottle on the counter. Decant a small amount into a bottle or cruet for the table and keep the tin closed between refills. That also protects the polyphenols you are paying for.
